Where can i take my PC to be fixed (Zug)

PC is buggered. Trojans got on it and it went tits up. Some variation on the crypt trojan. Have run everything under the sun. Needs a professional.

Anyone know anyone who will come here or where I can take the PC to?

Seems like you use MSIE as browser, you should switch to Firefox or Safari after you have the machine sorted. This page may be of help too. http://www.ehow.com/how_5796120_rid-...ojan-worm.html

Backup your data to an external dive, and then freshly reinstall Windows using the CD you (hopefully) got with your PC. Will save you a small fortune in repair costs.

After reinstalling, install a good anti-virus program like Avira Antivirus http://www.free-av.com/en/trialpay_d...antivirus.html, and also install SPyware Blaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

And use Firefox as your browser. http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/

before doing the reinstallation, you need to do a complete reformat of the hard drive to erase anything that is lurking there.
then re-instal windows, and then make sure you have a good and up to date anti virus. I use Avira and its pretty good and free.

or rather, don't. There are security errors in all browsers.

Re: Where can i take my PC to be fixed (Zug)

Backup your data to an external drive.

See if you can get hold of a rescue Anti Virus CD , one you can boot from , which will allow you to disinfect the inactive OS without having to boot from an infected OS.

Failing that, re-install, but ensure you re-partition / re-format the drive to destroy the infected files etc. If you re-install over an infected OS, you will probably still end up with the infection.

Scan and remove the virus from the infected drive. Ensure autoplay is disabled on the external drive first.

The problem is I dont have a copy of windows. The PC I have is a Proliant Server so I would need that disk which I dont have.

I already had decent virus, firewall and spyware packages on there

If you already have a decent AV and spyware package then you must have done something manually to get infected. Which AV package do you have just out of interest?

I would really, really buy a copy of Windowsd 7, because when you are badly infected by a virus, it is not only incredibly difficult to remove it completely, but you are putting a plaster on an open wound. Sometimes, the best (and quickest) way of removing an infection is to reformat... and you will spend almost the same amount of money getting it removed as you would on a new copy of Windows 7.

On the PC there was
AVG AV
Comodo firewall
Other misc
CC cleaner
Spybot S&D
Adaware

The only issue with the pc is I had MS update turned off

This thing, whatever it was, brought my PC to it's knees in the space of 5mins.

I still need someone to come and sort me out

I'd get the computer fixed first, love. One thing at a time.

If it's Windows, then boot it in safe mode (F8 on startup). This loads only core drivers. Your AV should still function. Scan the whole computer. Restart.

If your still infected beyond this as RD says, you'll fix it a lot quicker by reinstalling windows. If you havent got the source files either get them (buy or P2P or wherever) or as a last resort consider switching to linux (ubuntu for example, www.redhat.com) if you just use your computer for browsing, playing music and watching stuff then its simple to understand, never breaks and will install easily.

Why did you have updates off?

Re: Where can i take my PC to be fixed (Zug)

you might try this in the future if you have another virus-its very good. It will analyse your registry and give you a full report about suspicious entries

Firstly you have to install the program HighJack This

http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/

With this program you get a report of your registry which you then submit on this site

I think the problem may be somewhat old hat... it was originally posted three months ago.
