It's always safest you don't open the door for people you don't know. We have CCTV in our building and if its somebody I don't recognise and I'm not expecting visitors I just ignore them. If it's not the Billag it could be Jehovas Witnesses or it could be a snake-oil vendor or just somebody sniffing around to see if its worth breaking in. My neighbour's new mountain bike was stolen from the basement some weeks ago. The thief must have come in through the front door comepletely legally so somebody must have opened it for him.
Oh for goodness sake!

Yes, Billag also came to me, didn't request entry and were at least polite!
They didn't fine me and even didn't backdate my bill as far as they could have!

Bills in general in Switzerland.....they are slowly but surely killing me.
Living alone and earning a measly couple of thousand a month - health insurance, dental and medical bills and the rest - now what I consider to be a MASSIVE tax bill - sometimes I consider returning to the UK as it is certainly easier to make it on your own there.

Anyone else feel like this?

Hey! You left out the lakes! The lakes I tell you! That is quality of life. Can't afford the electricity bill? Go for a swim in the damn lake! Now! Feckless immigrants.

Oh I do understand how that could be really daunting.
Many people consider going back to their home countries for that reason (well one of the reasons) but.....
many never do simply because after a life time here. They've become very Swiss themselves and their children are often Swiss and the emotional ties to both the family and the adopted country are far more stronger than one would think.

Billag - anyone with Billag visit outside Zurich (kt Schwyz, village)?

Hello,

Has anyone had an experience with a visit from Billag outside Zurich? We live in a bigger village in kt. Schwyz so was wondering what the chances were... registered for TV licence ok but not radio so not sure whether to leave it to a chance...

Thanks

Geminder has become a little unpopular
Billag now a single payment per year

"
The Federal Council has decided to make the fees only once a year in a statement. The introduction of the financial statements are expressed in 2011. However, if you prefer to pay every three months, it is possible. To cover the added expense, but according to Federal, a surcharge of CHF 2 is to be paid per invoice.

Re: Billag now a single payment per year

Special reason why we now need to pay an added 2 CHF fee extra? Is it because of enviromental reasons and their bill paper costs 2 CHF per leaf?

Re: Billag now a single payment per year

CHF1 for postage, plus paper and processing. I don't think they'll be living too high on the hog from that, do you?

... and if you choose to pay every three months but do it via e-bill, direct deposit etc. they don't charge you the CHF2; it's only if you want them to send you a paper payment slip every time.

The yearly hit (for radio and television together) is CHF462.40.

Was actually a honest question, no strings attached I don't pay TV, so year bill doesn't really hurt much

This member might likely be a Billag employee - and has posted on Billag issues before.

Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

Legally it should be back dated from when you started to use radio/tv in the property - We were advised by swiss friends to do this, but not sure if you can get away with it.....
