Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

interestingly, the conversation I had with Billag over the phone was exactly the opposite of this.

http://www.billag.com/web/de/fragen_...befreiung.html supports it:
Quote:
Nur wenn keinerlei funktionierende Antenneninfrastruktur (Satellit, Antenne, Kabelnetz, Internet) vorhanden ist, besteht für das Fernsehgerät keine Meldepflicht.
"Only if no functioning antenna infrastructure (satellite, antenna, cable, Internet) available, there is no television licencing requirement."

Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

Well I guess in my case, the Satellite is functioning, but I CANNOT use it to pickup Swiss TV or Radio programmes without:

1/ Re-aligning the dish (or motorising it)
2/ Buying a new receiver that can receive these channels
3/ I think you also need a 'access card' for the Swiss channels

I do have a second dish (recently installed aand long after my visit) but at the moment there are no LNB's installed on it yet as I am still deciding on how I will set this up (probably going the Quattro route with 2 dual tuner receivers).

Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

If you read this:

http://www.bakom.ch/dienstleistungen...x.html?lang=en

Then just by owning a TV you should pay.

You have to be able to receive 'Swiss' programming, not just have a system capable of receiving 'Live' TV programmes.
This contradicts the information that is available to us so far. I hope you can count on the Billag employee's word...

Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

I was told by Billag that if you have the equipment that allows you to receive TV channels or radio, even if adjustments or set up is required, then you must pay.

Don't forget..when you are away for more than 4 weeks at a time you can notify Billag before you go and you won't have to pay :-)

Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

Yes if it is as simple as conencting a cable from the TV to a wall socket.

In my case it is not that simple.

This however will change, so when I buy my new satellite receiver, I will probably have to start paying, as this will be connected to satellite dish providing 13 & 19 degrees channels.

I think you were just lucky and you actually should be paying. I had a conversation with Billag to tell them that cable TV would be terminated outside my property as I would be receiving just Sky.

It is a licence to receive TV signals through whatever means you see fit. So cable, antenna or dish = pay.

Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

According to one of my 'Swiss' colleages it is the possibility to receive 'Swiss' channels by any means.

So if you can receive 'Swiss' programs you have to pay even if you don't actually watch them. Same in the car, if the radio can receive 'Swiss' stations, then you have to pay.

As I said this will change, but I hope to drop my Payment to Sky around the same time with a 'dreambox' style system

Thanks, I didn't know about that one. Does it run by any 4 weeks or is it a from-the-first-of-the-month thing?

Hi,
I was trying to find the page describing this, find this ( https://www.billag.com/web/de/fragen...befreiung.html ), and google translated as :
"Crucial under current law is not the effective use of the devices, but the presence of the same".

So? Do we still need to pay or not?

As a case in point I would have to pay the radio element even if I had no other receiving equipment but my radio alarm. Living where I do it can only receive one Swiss radio programme, and that programme I hate. If the alarm clock were the only radio source I had, it would be cheaper to give it away and buy a replacement without radio.

Apparently Billag will ask if you have either a radio alarm or a mobile phone which can receive radio. Answer either question in the affirmative, and you have to pay.

Any 4 weeks. I do this every year when we go back to Australia. You just need to notify them before leaving. No proof was required, but I guess they can check immigration records.

It is not just 'Swiss' channels, but any channel you receive in Switzerland that they must pay the licencing fees to broadcast including BBC Prime, BBC World, CNN ect.

The first one on that list is completely dire. I wish you luck trying to make sense of it. Oh, and for Mac users, it's in the wonderful .WMV format , so you need the likes of VLC to view it.

It's not even that. Having radio or TV equipment is enough.

The obligation to pay fees for radio/television reception exists regardless of whether and how the receiver uses the equipment. If a radio or television is present in a household via which reception is technically possible, the obligation to pay fees still applies.

Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

Sorry if this has already been said, I've been through the tread and it's still a bit unclear.

Last night the billag guy came round and was taking names of everyone that had internet acess in my residence saying that we have to pay radio billag. Is this the case? How would thay if you have software on the computer? I have no tv and no radio (at all, no car, cellphone with radio, walkman with radio, nothing).

The guy says it is the law and everyone with internet must pay the radio fees?

Did you sign anything? What did you tell him?
Did the Billag employee take a look at computers?
Did he find programs capable of playing stream radio?

You only are obligued to pay the radio fee if there's a stream radio program on the computer.
