Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

You pay and just have to inform them that you changed addresses. You do not pay again if you move.

Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

Yesterday we reviewed the letter with my landlord. So, it is not a payment slip, but an invitation to fill in the online-form.

Maybe it is a new style from Billag

Anyway, taking into account that I will move to a new apartment in a couple of months, I decided not to reply. Let's see what happens afterwards.

Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

I wont repeat what has been said/written/discussed here ad nauseam but it is not really up to you whether you want to pay or not? Unfortunately you will have to pay it.

And whether your landlord provides the wifi is irrelevant. If you can watch tv and/or listen to radio, youd need to pay this.

Im not too happy with it either as it is quite an amount per year.

The Billag don't have any right to enter your apartment! Don't let them in, and don't answer their questions. Most of the people knocking on doors are self employed anyway, and make their money by trying to get people to sign up on the spot.

Once you have a call, you could then sign up if you don't want to risk a future court order. In 25 years I have had only one Billag visitor.
Hello, a billag agent knocked my door...i did open the door and answer ''NO'' to all his questions...Not let him in...and didn't sign anything...

will they still get me in ?

thanks

Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

Hi,

I know Billag is a pain but it is about the same price as health insurance for 1 month. It is hardly worth the effort of seeing if you can find a way to not pay it.

Have fun

That depends entirely on you. There are people out there who have been dodging the Billag for 25+ years.

It can be unnerving at first but after a while you get used to it and can even learn how to push back. Ultimately the whole thing is a scam and the more you talk to these people and ask difficult questions, the more obvious it becomes that they're making stuff up as they go along.

Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

Hello,

thx for the answer, but still not the answer to my question.

the problem is not what you pay but what you get...

health insurance, it's expensive, but if you have any health problem(don't wish to anyone...) you will thank god that you are assured...for a small chirurgical operation the bill can go easy 10-15K. Secondly everyone is forced to health insurance, but even if it was optional i would choose to pay.

I can ditch electricity and water from my appart...but i can't live without them...im ok to pay them
but hell YES i can live without tv/radio suisse...i don't want to contribute to them, and i dont care if they exist.

We need a Billexit, and there are really people that vote ok to this ?
it's more expensive than electricity, pure madness.

There actually are people getting organised and seeking to get the law changed. Look up No Bilag on Facebook and you can see what they're up to. If you feel about it strongly enough, get involved yourself.

It depends on how you handle the weird guys who come knocking on your door. They are for the most part not even actually employed by Bilag but work on a commission basis so they get payed a percentage if they sign you up and they get nothing if you don't cooperate. They are thus incentivised to tell you bull$hit and pull any trick to make you sign. But you need to stay firm and be prepared to tell them to leave if they can't take no for an answer.

If you act like a lemming they will treat you like one.

Thank you for your answer,

Didn't sign anything and answered no to all his questions (do you Have tv, radio, Internet in home, internet in smartphone, radio in car...) i don't have them.

In order to make their commission they have to sign people i guess...opening the door doesn't mean anything

I will never open the door anymore, not to someone without a judge statement or the police.

Will they re-knock on my door...
what are other ways that they can get you involved ?

They'll probably be writing letters at some point down the line.

I've been ignoring those for years.

I'm ready to sing anything against them, what they ask, what they pretend, the way they pretend... is just madness, a shame for Switzerland

I really thank you,

i was asking for experience on how to deal with them. What those letter contains ? do they really send someone with judge mandated to check your house ?

After you ignored those letters, do they keep sending the same thing over and over-again...do they continue with pursuit and thing like this

There are basically two letters I have been receiving over and over again.

One is a "questionnaire" asking me what equipment I have. It's set up to look as if it has nothing to do with Billag (apart from Billag being the sender) but that it's just some statistical survey. If you ignore that they re-send it after two or three months. Normally after the third attempt they stop and leave you alone for a year or two before starting over. The cover letter says something about the questionaire not being voluntary so you need to reply bal bla. But all that is hot air. I've been through the cycle about six times now. Ultimately the law says that if the letter doesn't come registered you don't need to react. And Billag being cheapskates don't go that way.

The other is a Billag registration form. Normally this comes without a postmark so I assume they drop it in your box personally, presumably after knocking on the door but finding no one at home. It has a scan code on it presumable so they know which agent gets the bonus if you agree to sign up. If you look closely there are several grammatical errors in the German text (well, I guess being in Geneva you'll get the French version, don't know how good that is) and at least one misleading statement. It looks as if it was put together by some junior staff member and not checked by any senior person or lawyer. So I just ignore that too.

Dear all,
a quick question from a beginner. Do I have to register as a TV user? Is it mandatory?

The short answer is: "yes".

The long answer is: If you have a radio, television, or computer, then "yes".

The short answer is: "yes".

The long answer is: If you have a radio, television, or computer, then "yes".
Nope. Just not correct, neither the short nor the long answer.

This has been discussed so many times here, and the correct answer given and repeated over and over again, that those of us who have been repeating the correct information have pretty much given up. It comes down to this: if you want to pay this "tax" for a service you don't use, knock yourself out. If you do in fact consume TV and/or radio, then you should indeed pay for it (but simply owning a computer does NOT necessarily render you liable for Billag).

This thread has become so long that the essential answer has become buried. I'll post it one more time, below, and encourage anyone else with the same question not to post in this thread before reading it in its entirety. Or just the bit below, if you want the abridged version.

Here's the summary:
_________________________

The basic answer is, it depends -- on whether you have the capacity to receive TV and/or radio transmissions, at home, in your car if you have one (and if you do, it almost certainly has a radio) or on your mobile phone or tablet. You need to have the hardware, software to enable reception of transmissions, and in the case of TV, a subscription (whether paid or free) to receive broadcasts. Almost everyone with a modern computer or smartphone checks the first two boxes (hardware and software); it's the third that provides you with an "out" if you need it, at least as far as the TV licence fee goes.

You probably do need to pay the component of the fee that relates to consuming radio broadcasts.
