Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

I understand that the Government (Bundesrat) have rejected the referendum, and will continue with the existing system.

They will soon modernize the laws, especially concerning the TV reception over Internet,

This is going to get interesting. Typically the Bundesrat use the possibility of the counter proposal to reduce the strength of the initial proposal and propose some half-way compromise. In the case of Billag this could be some fee reduction or waivers for particularly hard-hit groups, which for many voters would be a sufficient vindication.

Instead they are going for all-out opposition, either assuming the initiative has no chance anyway, or seeking to make this into a fundamental discussion on how to spend other people's money.

It does. It is just spread out over multiple paragraphs.

(which was the translation of the German for which I asked for a reference from Omatwat).

The new charging system is expected to enter into force on 1 January 2019.
[...]
On 14 June 2015, the electorate accepted the revised Radio and Television Act (RTVA). As a result, the current reception fee will be replaced by a universal, device-independent fee. Since this means that the funding will be borne by more people and will be administratively simpler, the fee for radio and television for households can be reduced to significantly less than CHF 400 per year. The Federal Council will set the amount of the fee in good time before the new system enters into force.

Re: Do I have to get a TV licence from Billag?

For those amongst us who normally like to behave overly-Swiss (but apparantly don't really know what duties come with that): They should know that we voted about these changes on 14.6.2015 and accepted them. (The page needs scrolling down, darn, darn, darn)
And in case those overly Swiss don't remember what the heck they voted about then, it is all here (in German because that is one of the languages spoken here in case that is forgotten as well).

Oh and that and why it will no longer be called Billag in 2019 a SwissintheUS has already posted.

I remember a certain person telling us, that we Swiss should be told what to do and make respective laws to force those breainless/selfish Swiss to behave according to what our friendly immigrants think is best for us.
To be honest, if the new laws are forgotten within 2 years .... go ahead with that idea

AH, I see, SwissinUS also went through the trouble to remind of the 2015-vote

Not sure if this is good or bad. But at least the CEO won't be pocketing huge sums that should go to the people Billag collects for.

http://www.blick.ch/news/schweiz/bil...t-id10227.html

And the employees have been exempt from the fee.

This was a completely different matter.

The No Billag vote will be about a total abolition of Billag, not about window dressing it as the last vote did.
