Skype or equivalent on HTC Wildfire

Anyone got this working? I know its not supported but Im trying to setup Skype on my wife`s Wildfire so we can wifi talk when Im o/s.

I`ve installed Nimbuzz (havent activated it yet) but want something that is easy to use, i.e. Skype as she is hardly a IT geek.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Skype or equivalent on HTC Wildfire

Have you gone to the marketplace and typed skype?

It was released last week and worked over wifi and 3g.

Edit: Apologies it seems it doesn't work on the wildwire even though the website says it works on all HTC devices running 2.1 http://blogs.skype.com/en/2010/10/android.html

Re: Skype or equivalent on HTC Wildfire

I have it downloaded, installed and up and running on an HTC Hero running 2.1

It's "OK, but" it's certainly not an implementation the Skype developers should be proud of, and I have a gut feeling that, one way or another, it's a battery-burner.

it works for Desire too. Initially I got some errors. I had to login via wireless and then it started working from the orange network too

Re: Skype or equivalent on HTC Wildfire

Skype implementation over Android is not widely accepted because of its size. It is undoubtedly the best free video calling for desktop/laptop but not for smartphones. Skype became a bloatware for smartphone, since there is still room for improvement lets hope that skype releases a new version.

Wildfire is half the spec of Desire, i suggest you try Fring (not accepting skype account) and Nimbuzz (accept skype account) first.

My Desire runs Fring (for my SIP) and Nimbuzz (for Skype).

I suspected as much. Bloody Skype, they draw you in and then with the takeover by Ebay they have slowly started to get more sucky. Im pretty much dependent on Skype these days and luckily I got the HTC desire whose Skype application works well on, but I would love to talk to the wife when I'm overseas and this makes it hard. Sure she can still use the home laptop but its the convenience of having it on her Wildfire that would make all the difference.

Looks like the answer is for me to load Fring or Nimbuzz on my Desire so we can make like to like calls on that then.

Bloody Skype.....

Re: Skype or equivalent on HTC Wildfire

Update, seems like Skype have released a version for the Wildfire. I've installed and tested it on my wife's Wildfire and it works great.
