Homebrew channel on wii

Has anyone been able to install the homebrew channel on their wii using hackmii8? Ours is running on firmware 4.3e and when I look on google all the instructions talk about 4.3u (USA). It seems the same method on different frimware could result in your wii being bricked up!

My main reason for wanting to install it is so I can back the games up and play them off of a hard drive as the games are so expensive and my kids don't look after them and a few are quite badly scratched already!

Thanks

Do both of you have firmware 4.3? Can you upgrade firmware afterward?

I'm also interested, but have read some bad things with trying to hack the 4.3.

Re: Homebrew channel on wii

I found everything I needed here:

http://www.wiihacks.com/

The latest firmware is harder.

WARNING: Don't upgrade the firmware, the older the firmware the easier it is.

Don't forget to backup system.

Worth while buying several small SD cards (2Gb), think I used four in the end saved having to re-use them (delete contents and add next set of software). http://en.toppreise.ch/prod_189923.html Think I bought mine in Interdiscount for about 15chf a pack of two.

btw for the DS, these are GREAT: http://www.r4ds.me/index-en.html

I ended up importing the SDHC versions. The SD versions you can buy here for around 20chf (including postage), just look on Ricardo. On toppreise a lot more.

They also say NO to downgrading.

I have 4.2e I think.

It is not diffult, but set a chunk of time aside for this where you will have no distractions, noise, interruptions. Just take your time and follow the instructions step by step.

Re: Homebrew channel on wii

If you get stuck, let me know, I think I still have the SD cards with the SW on.

You'll also need a 'compatible' hard drive. A list can be found on the same website. And WBFS manager.

Come on man, this is a thread obviously about the hack of a commercial gaming system. Did you really need to post something completely off topic to make yourself look holier than thou?

Re: Homebrew channel on wii

No problem with hacking - anti-hacking measures only effect "ordinary" users. But boasting about downloading games... bit sad really.

A cheap solution wouold be a 'WD Live TV' where you can plug in an external USB drive or play directly off the internet. Supports all formats including HD (easily streams FULL HD 1080p of my system).

http://en.toppreise.ch/index.php?search=WD+HD+TV

The non-Live versions are even cheaper but don't have a network connection.

You probably can do this on the Wii, but will not support HD. So I have not tried. My TV has a network port and can stream movies of the network from a Media server app, but again this did not support HD so no longer used. ca. 40% of the stuff I watch is HD

Yeah I have a pretty crappy TV so the HD direction isn't so much of a worry. If I can't find anything I will probably revert to converting the video into a playable format anyway.
